Downland RaceSaturday 17 July 2010
The annual Downland Race was staged on the 10th July from St. Pancras Green, with much excitement and trepidation from the first timers and an urge from the veterans to beat their previous times.
In very hot and dry conditions, so hot in fact a sprinkler was set up near the finishing line, Bob Owens was the overall winner (18:08), followed closely by Harry Bennet (19:03), Cliff Parrot (19:18), William Tidy (19:35), Kai Rahman was the youngest competitor, aged 10 (22:40), I missed who was 6th - sorry! Rebecca Zammit was the first female with a time of 24 minutes.
8th was Terry Krejzl who leaped across the line like a gazelle in 26 minutes.
Unfortunately we didn’t get all the times on the day. We have put a few images of the event in the gallery.
After all the competitors had all returned, there was a fun game of Stoolball and a BBQ set up by Lionel as usual. Villagers made the BBQ into a large picnic type affair, bringing their own drinks and food to cook - all of which went down really well with the attendees.
