Bonfire Night goes with a Bang!Sunday 14 November 2010
There was a great evening to be had last night at Iford & Kingston School. The evening kicked off with a fancy dress competition judged by Jean Lawence who awarded top prize to 'Pippi Long Stocking'.
While a column of fire shot in to the night sky from one of the biggest bonfires seen in recent memory. The Neville Bonfire Society put on a fantastic show with 'quiet' fireworks for the little ones followed half an hour later by the main event which lit up the skies above Kingston even more in multi-coloured hues and showers of sparkling stars.
A few happy bonfire nighters went home with some great prizes under their arms as the evening finished in a raffle enzy as everyone tried to buy the winning ticket for one of the great prizes on offer including tickets to Glyndebourne, days out at local eateries such as The Ram in Firle, Famiglia's iitalian restaurant, The Buttercup Cafe, Bills and The Juggs. As well as bottles of Breaky Bottom and Magnums of champagne and numerous other prizes.
Its early days but it looks to be one of the most successful bonfire nights ever thanks to the delicious food and drink on offer, the hotly contested raffle and the generosity of the local businesses and community.
All proceeds go directly towards the school equipment and some planned planting in the Spring for a sensory garden.
