Parish Hall Picture House - Kingston Film ClubThursday 02 December 2010
Our third season 2010/2011….
Last season we laughed, we cried, we even sang along—so we decided to do it all again!
It’s not just about seeing a film, it’s a social event too, and you can bring along your own food and drink. We try to create a nice atmosphere, appropriate to the theme of the evening. It’s also a chance to see films that you didn’t think were your sort of thing—you might be pleasantly surprised!
Your membership money covers the cost of obtaining a copyright licence to show the films, the cost of hiring the DVDs, the cost of hiring the hall and the cost of electricity, but it is non-profit making. We usually manage two dates per month, and would hope to achieve that this coming season. We aim to meet on Fridays as this seems to suit members best. Any surplus funds are be ploughed back into the club (for example by providing some free nibbles and drinks for special occasions such as our Christmas event and end of season night!)
The season runs from September 2010 to the end of April 2011 and we offer individual or family membership. Individual membership costs just £10, or £25 for a family membership – there’s no additional entrance fee after that! Our means of notifying you about dates and films will only be via email and by posters on the three village notice boards. We’ll tell you about the film, the stars, the directors and the film classification. Please make sure that children are accompanied by an adult member who can take responsibility for them.
Whatever your taste in movies, we hope you’ll not only join, but make an extra effort to come along, and help to make our third season of The Parish Hall Picture House another success.
If you’re interested, come along and join on the night or email Pat Gibson - We welcome suggestions for films to show. We still haven’t got through last year’s list, but we’re giving it our best shot!
The next two films nights are 10th December when we’ll be showing that world cinema classic Cinema Paradiso (the director’s cut), and 17th December which is a very Christmassy event when we’ll be showing two seasonal films (including the new Walt Disney animated version of A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey) and plying our members with free mince pies, sausage rolls, nibbles and lashing of mulled wine! Hope to see you there.....
Friday 10 Dec 7.30pm doors open 7.15pm

A world cinema classic. Set in a small Sicilian village, the story depicts three stages in the life of Salvatore, who leaves his village on the advice of his mentor as a boy and returns home many years later as a prominent Roman movie director. He returns to attend the funeral of the town's former film projectionist and in so doing embarks upon a journey into his boyhood just after WW II when he became the unofficial son of the town projectionist.
Starring: Philippe Noiret Salvatore Cascio
